SEM ANALYSIS OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL AND MICROSTRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF WILD BARLEY CELLULOSE PROCESSED BY THE PLANETARY-ROLLER EXTRUSION METHOD
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article investigates the process of extracting cellulose from the stem of a non-traditional raw material source - wild barley (Hordeum murinum) - and examines the properties of the resulting product. The structural and morphological properties of the extracted cellulose were studied using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A unique aspect of this research is the comparative analysis of the physicochemical indicators of the obtained sample against those of traditional cotton and flax celluloses. Analysis of the FTIR spectra confirmed the similarity of functional groups among the samples, while SEM images revealed the distinct fiber structure and micromorphology of wild barley cellulose. The results indicate that the quality indicators of wild barley cellulose are comparable to those of traditional raw materials, demonstrating its potential for use as an effective filler in polymer composites.
