INVESTIGATION OF HYDROCHLORIC ACID MODIFICATION OF NAVBAHOR BENTONITE CLAY AND ITS PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the acid modification of bentonite clay from the Navbahor deposit using hydrochloric acid and evaluates its effect on the physicochemical properties of the material. Bentonite samples were activated with 0.1 M and 1.5 M HCl solutions, and changes in their chemical composition and surface morphology were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that acid treatment significantly reduces the content of exchangeable calcium, sodium, and magnesium ions while preserving the primary crystal structure of montmorillonite. In addition, the formation of new pores on the bentonite surface enhances its sorption performance. The obtained findings demonstrate the potential of acid-modified bentonite as an effective adsorbent material for environmental and industrial applications.
